about

Coming out of the shadow left behind from his tenure in the ambient-minded trap duo SomeoneSomeone, Bito’s debut ep Boreal Rainforest is very much a project about freedom. Recorded during an intense creative stretch which coincided with his departure from the duo, these ensuing sessions saw Bito meticulously building compositions, stacking layers, and tinkering with the project until it matched the unique mental image which had been hazingly swirling around in his head for some time before.

Eclectically atmospheric, Boreal Rainforest is a project whose mood molds to any environment. “Usually when I'm making a beat I want to be able to listen to it outside and experience it in a different sort of way,” he says. Whether you choose to pick it up in the park, in the club, or in the comfort of your bedroom, the project will shapeshift to your surroundings ensuring that your experience with the record never falls flat.

Every track brings out a different facet of Bito’s creative mind — from the infectiously swirling pan-flute let “Nativity,” to the pseudo-trap stylings of the Mongolian throat singer sampling “Biloba,” to the grand orchestral closer “Patulous”— and when clumped together, create a concise yet abstract narrative. This project was meant to achieve what a lot of projects in this era fail to, and that is to completely capture the listener and take them on a journey into the deepest depths of the creator’s mind. This album benefits from being listened to uninterruptedly from cover to cover — to be enjoyed purely for what it is.

Representing a new start for Bito, Boreal Rainforest is an ep which showcases an artist comfortable in his style and abilities, and eager to share his unique musical vision with the world. “I wanted to touch on a lot of different styles but still have a theme,” he says, “and I think I really nailed that, none of the tracks really sound the same but they flow.” This emphasis on structure employed in a loose abstract manner is what separates Bito’s music from the other dime-a-dozen up and coming beat makers trying to break out. Though his sound is polished and shows clear direction, its also shows promise and leaves space open to blossom, and thats what makes this project so exciting.
